Parasite SEO Statistics: Which Platforms Rank in 2026
In our study of 6,620 US searches, 62.2% had a page from a third-party platform in the top 10 results, and 28% had one in the top 3. Video, social and review platforms took most of those slots; Reddit and Quora each appeared in about 9% of searches.
Below: which platforms appear, which kinds of searches are most open, and which niches leave the most room for a page published on someone else's domain.
How often third-party platforms rank
- 62.2% of searches had at least one third-party platform page in the top 10.
- 28% had one in the top 3.
- 13.8% had three or more platform pages in the top 10.
- Across positions 11 to 50, platforms still made up 14.9% of results.
Read these as a ceiling, not a promise: the list of platforms includes review sites such as Yelp, which a business cannot simply publish to. The guide to choosing parasite SEO sites explains how to filter for platforms you can actually use.

Blog-style publishing platforms (Medium, Vocal, Weebly) are rare in these results, which fits a pattern the definition of parasite SEO flags: the strategy works through communities, video and social profiles at least as often as through classic article sites. Platform setup notes are in the help center for Reddit, YouTube and Facebook.

Local service and hospitality niches lead because their results are full of social profiles, video and review pages. Financial and software niches are dominated by publishers and brands. If you run a small local business, start with parasite SEO for small business.
How we ran the study
We generated 6,620 searches from 331 niches and 10 intent patterns, ran each for the US, and recorded the top 50results. A result counts as a platform page when its host is one of 35 known third-party platforms (social, forum, publishing, video, document and review sites). The score for a search weights each result by 1/√position, so a platform in position 1 counts more than one in position 10, and is floored at 70 when a platform holds a top-3 spot. Searches are not weighted by volume, results shift over time, and personalisation was not simulated.

Parasite SEO statistics FAQ
How common is it for third-party platforms to rank in Google?
In our study, 62.2% of 6,620 searches had at least one page from a third-party platform in the top 10, and 28% had one in the top 3. That includes review sites, so it is an upper bound for platforms a business can publish to freely.
Which platforms appeared most often?
youtube.com (25.8% of searches), facebook.com (19.4% of searches), reddit.com (9.4% of searches), quora.com (9.4% of searches), yelp.com (7.9% of searches).
Does this prove parasite SEO works?
No. It shows where the opening exists: which searches already return third-party pages and on which platforms. Whether a specific post ranks still depends on its content, the platform's policies and the competition for that query.
How was the data collected?
We ran 6,620 niche and intent searches (for example "best plumber" or "dentist reviews") for the US, recorded the top 50 results for each, and classified every result URL by host. The study ran in October 2026.
